about

Ymer was the first giant. He was created from the mists of Ginnungagap when the cold glaciers of Niflheim met the warm breath drifting north from Muspelheim. As more of the ice in Ginnungagap melted, the fluid took the form of a cow. She was called Audumla. The giant Ymer fed off the four rivers of milk that coursed from her teats. While he slept, Ymer began to sweat. A man and a woman grew out of the ooze from his left armpit, and one of his legs fathered a son on the other leg. In this way Ymer became forefather of all the frost giants.

The three gods Odin, Vile og Ve hated Ymer so much that they eventually attacked and killed him. They made the world from his body, and from his blood they made the oceans, the rivers and all the lakes. They shaped the earth from Ymers flesh and the mountains from his unbroken bones. From his teeth and jaws they made stones and boulders and from his hair they made the forests. They used his eyelashes to make a wall around Midgård; the land of men.

lyrics

for menneskebørn

Krauka Aarhus, Denmark

This is some hard-edged, macho, Viking stuff. Using implements of destruction and pillage ranging from hide drums to shawms to jew’s harps to chainsaws and axes, this Nordic quintet hacks into the Scandinavian permafrost.
